The Hamrin professor of Media Economics, Robert G.Picard, will be a featured speaker at a public meeting at the European Commission on June 8, presenting the findings and conclusions of the study “Indicators for Media Pluralism: Towards a Risk-Based Approach” and to present the Media Pluralism Monitor that we developed.

This is the study that Media Management and Transformation Center did for the commission in conjunction with partners at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Central European University Budapest and Ernst & Young.

This study forms part of the European Commission’s effort to raise discussion of media pluralism in the European Union and is expected to culminate with a Commission Communication on Media Pluralism in the coming years.

The objective of our study was to develop a monitoring tool for assessing media pluralism in the EU Member States and identifying threats to such pluralism based on a set of indicators, covering pertinent legal, economic and socio-cultural considerations.

The workshop will take place in Brussels, on Monday 8th June, 2009 (10 am – 5 pm), in the Albert Borschette Conference Centre in Rue Froissart 36, room AB-0D. Simultaneous translation will be provided in three languages (EN, FR and DE).

More details are available from the European Commission.

Every year on April 30 there is a spring celebration at our campus. It’s an old tradition in primarily university cities around Sweden to celebrate the coming of spring, with speeches, choir singing, bonfires and other festivities on this day, called Valborgsmässoafton (Walpurgis Night).

Student publishes paper in recognized research journal

Posted May 05, 2009 | Comments Off

This is the story of Alberto Pietrobon, a first year student at JIBS, who got an article published in a recognized journal. The article presents ideas on a database solution for entrepreneurs to be able to utilize already achieved knowledge when starting up new businesses.

After living in London for a year he had decided to go on to higher education and chose JIBS because of internationalisation, and the BBI (Bachelor of Business Informatics) programme.

At JIBS Alberto met another Italian person, professor Piero Formica, dean of the International Entrepreneurship Academy, an organisation supported by Jönköping University. They came to discuss a paper on experimental labs for new start up companies, which professor Formica together with professor Martin Curley of the National University of Ireland and Global Director of IT Innovation and Research at the Intel Corporation, just had published in the Journal Industry & Higher Education.

Alberto responded to the article by suggesting a database solution to facilitate for prospective entrepreneurs to utilize already achieved experiences from other start ups. Formica and Curley became enthusiastic and helped out with the presentation and contacts with the mentioned journal. That way the paper of Alberto Pietrobon, a first year student at JIBS, got published.
